Kodanad, land of elephants in Kerala !

Kodanad, a rescue elephant training centre is situated at a distance of about 20 km from Kochi international airport in Kerala, South India.

This place figures in the ecotourism map of Kerala.

Kodanad, the land of elephants, on the banks of the river Periyar attracts many tourists. Here we can see elephants being taken care of. There are wooden elephant training cages called "kraal" and it is a wonderful sight elephants being bathed by mahouts in the river.

Facilities are there for elephant safari as well.

  15. Rajiv, Nice photos of the elephant rescue center in Kerala! We also have an elephant rescue center for elephants here in Tennessee, USA. Unfortunately for humans, it's not open to the public. I'm sure that makes the elephants happy though. Thanks for stopping by my blog site. Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

Nice to hear that there is a Rescue center for elephants in the USA. Hope you will blog about it asap.

Since the ban on elephant capture in 1970 by the Government of India, Kodanad became a training center for rescued elephants. The place is included in the ecotourism centers by the Government.

Yes, the baby elephants there are very cute.

I read in the newspapers sometime ago that they cared for a very small baby elephant and to the delight of everyone the baby thrived. Many people, mostly children visited there to see this cute baby :)
