Kodanad - land of elephants in Kerala!

Kodanad, a rescue elephant training center is situated at a distance of about 20 km from Kochi international airport in Kerala, South India.

This place figures in the ecotourism map of Kerala.

Kodanad, the land of elephants, on the banks of the river Periyar attracts many tourists. Here we can see elephants being taken care of. There are wooden elephant training cages called "kraal" and it is a wonderful sight the elephants being bathed by mahouts in the river.

Facilities are there for elephant safari as well.

Liked this post? Well..., I have one more interesting blog, click here to check the latest updates there too😊

It's nature at its best, Rajiv! I'd taken a ride on an elephant some yrs back when I was in Thailand & my back ached like hell after the 30 mins ride. Hahaha! But it was an awesome experience!

Hello Amelia, I really appreciate you writing a comment about this post.

Actually, these pics were taken some years ago when I visited there during a vacation. Nothing much has changed there though; that is what I have heard from people who have visited there recently.

Have a great day ahead!

Rajiv, Nice photos of the elephant rescue center in Kerala! We also have an elephant rescue center for elephants here in Tennessee, USA. Unfortunately for humans, it's not open to the public. I'm sure that makes the elephants happy though. Thanks for stopping by my blog site. Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

Nice to hear that there is a Rescue center for elephants in the USA. Hope you will blog about it asap.

Since the ban on elephant capture in 1970 by the Government of India, Kodanad became a training center for rescued elephants. The place is included in the ecotourism centers by the Government.

Yes, the baby elephants there are very cute.

I read in the newspapers sometime ago that they cared for a very small baby elephant and to the delight of everyone the baby thrived. Many people, mostly children visited there to see this cute baby :)

Whoa, actual elephants. I should make an effort to see some in the wild before they're gone forever.

Rajiv Sankarapillai said...

Hi, thank you.
I agree with you. Inspite of the sincere efforts by many authorities and organizations wild life in general is declining fast all over the planet.
